Rosemead, Calif – On September 26, 2015, Guide Dogs of America received a donation from PetSmart in the amount of $10,000. The donation will help Guide Dogs of America to continue its mission of providing guide dogs at no cost to blind men and women across the U.S. and Canada. A check was presented to the San Gabriel group of Guide Dogs of America’s volunteer puppy raisers at the new PetSmart store located at 3530 Rosemead Blvd, Rosemead, Calif.

Guide Dogs of America receives no government funding and therefore relies solely on donations from companies, individuals, and organizations to raise the approximate $42,000 it takes to put one guide dog team into service.

“It is because of gracious organizations such as PetSmart that Guide Dogs of America can continue to change the lives of those who are visually impaired such as myself,” said Lorri Bernson, Guide Dogs of America’s Media and Community Liaison. “Until you’ve walked in the shoes of someone who is blind and has a guide dog, you can never truly understand how life-changing these dogs can be, and the impact they make on that individual’s life and independence. With this gracious donation from PetSmart, the school can continue to make a difference in so many lives.”

PetSmart provided this charitable donation through its PetSmart Gives Back program, which focuses on giving back to local communities throughout the nation to support organizations — like Guide Dogs of America — that enrich people’s lives through the power of pets.

“At PetSmart, we believe in supporting organizations that make communities vibrant and strong,” said Dianna Briggs, district leader of PetSmart. “We’re proud to partner with Guide Dogs of America to leverage the power of pets to enrich the lives of more people.”
