This photo of GDA puppy-in-training Linus was taken by his GDA volunteer puppy raiser Cindy Valancius. It was a “ruff” decision, as we received so many great photos to choose from. GDA Presents Suzanne Clothier

GDA Presents Puppy Raising Expert Suzanne Clothier

GDA is pleased to host Suzanne Clothier for an exciting three-day seminar. Suzanne has raised eight generations of her Hawks Hunt German Shepherds, as well as litters of other breeds. Her approach to puppy raising has helped private breeders of several breeds raise “the best puppies ever.” Most notably, her ideas have been put to the test since 2008 being used with thousands of puppies at multiple guide and service dog schools.

New Enhanced Enrichment Program Gives Pups a ‘Paw Up’

Guide Dogs of America has always strived to give its puppies a “paw up” right from the start. GDA has its own breeding program to provide the best quality dogs possible for our blind and visually impaired guide dog recipients. The puppies are born in our nursery where they are cared for by our staff and a group of “selected” volunteers. These volunteers give the puppies individual attention and handling soon after they are born. This socialization is an important part of their development.
