GDA Volunteers Pick Up “T,” “V,” W,” and “A” Litters!

Guide Dogs of America’s volunteer puppy raiser families foster our puppies from the age of 7 weeks until the dogs enter formal guide dog training at around 18 months of age. Volunteer puppy raisers recently picked up GDA’s “T,” “V,” “W,” and “A” litters.

GDA Presents Suzanne Clothier

GDA Presents Puppy Raising Expert Suzanne Clothier

GDA is pleased to host Suzanne Clothier for an exciting three-day seminar. Suzanne has raised eight generations of her Hawks Hunt German Shepherds, as well as litters of other breeds. Her approach to puppy raising has helped private breeders of several breeds raise “the best puppies ever.” Most notably, her ideas have been put to the test since 2008 being used with thousands of puppies at multiple guide and service dog schools.

GDA volunteer protects service dogs in his home state

Guide Dogs of America volunteer Adam Beasley is in the news for his successful effort to create a law protecting service dogs in his home state of Alabama. The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers’ “Machinist News Network” reports:

“Thanks to IAM Local 2003 member and Guide Dogs of America volunteer Adam Beasley, Alabama now has a law specifically protecting service dogs from assault for the first time in the state’s history.

GDA Puppies Go to “Nursery” School

New Enhanced Enrichment Program Gives Pups a ‘Paw Up’

Guide Dogs of America has always strived to give its puppies a “paw up” right from the start. GDA has its own breeding program to provide the best quality dogs possible for our blind and visually impaired guide dog recipients. The puppies are born in our nursery where they are cared for by our staff and a group of “selected” volunteers. These volunteers give the puppies individual attention and handling soon after they are born. This socialization is an important part of their development.

Stylish Paws, Great Cause: GDA’s Quilt Raffle Winner!

Congratulations to Kitty Wong, winner of the “Dogs Make The World A Better Place” quilt. The Orange County Quilters Guild crafted and generously donated the quilt for raffle to benefit Guide Dogs of America’s program that provides blind and visually impaired individuals with professionally trained guide dogs, and instruction in their use, free of charge.
