Cake Ingredients: 2 cups Wesson Oil 1 1/2 cups Sugar 2 Eggs 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 1/2 cups plain flour (not Self Rising) 1 cup buttermilk 2 Tablespoons cocoa 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 oz. red food coloring Cream oil & sugar. Add eggs. Beat well. Add flour and buttermilk alternately. Make paste of cocoa & red coloring. Add to above mixture. Add salt, soda & vanilla. Mix well. Bake 25 minutes in 350 degree oven in buttered & floured long cake pan. (Single layer is best for this dense, moist cake!) Icing Ingredients: 1 box sifted powdered sugar 1 stick butter softened 1 cup chopped pecans 8 ox. cream cheese softened 1 teaspoon vanilla Beat everything well, except nuts. Stir in nuts and ice cooled cake. Actor W. Earl Brown is from Murray, Kentucky. Best known as Dan Dority on TV's "Deadwood," he has also starred in numerous movies, including "There's something about Mary." Said his mother's Red Velvet Cake was better than the one at Hollywood's Doughboys.
