Six times each year, a new group of up to 10 students arrives at our campus to receive their guide dogs and complete a 21-day in-residence training program. Each student is carefully matched to a dog, with special consideration given to their work and home environments, physical abilities, and a variety of other factors. The in-residence training course focuses on weekly developmental goals:
Week 1: Basic handling and fundamentals
Week 2: Building a relationship and understanding of handler and guide dog’s communication
Week 3: Preparing for the transition to home
The Life of a Guide Dog
Guide dogs are intelligent, clever and enjoy the work they do! They like being out and about with their human partners and taking in their surroundings. Whether going to grocery stores, shopping malls, restaurants, work, school or home, our dogs and their human partners lead healthy, active lives together.
