In Remembrance: GDA Champion Fran Granger
Dedicated Guide Dogs of America supporter Fran Granger passed away August 3, 2016, surrounded by her family. Guide Dogs of America’s Board of Directors and staff extend our deepest condolences to her husband of 46 years, GDA board member J. Weldon Granger, their children and their families.
J. Weldon Granger, longtime friend and counsel to the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, shares that his wife’s courageous battle with cancer exemplified her unwavering strength and strong Catholic faith and that her unselfish approach to life made her a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Weldon and the couple’s sons John and Jason have served the Machinists all of their professional lives and Fran, 67, was deeply committed to supporting Guide Dogs of America, as well as several charitable organizations in her Houston, Texas community and beyond. The Granger family notes that all of Fran’s contributions were without fanfare and without need for acclaim or credit, saying that she preferred not to be credited and truly “gave to give,” without the need for notice. These wonderful traits are what made her “Fran” and she will always be remembered by those who knew her.
